First Step Support for Student Entrepreneurs
The “New Ideas New Businesses”, the Best Technological Business Idea Competition being organized by the Middle East Technical University and METU Technopolis under the main sponsorship of the Elginkan Foundation for the past three years, continues to encourage young entrepreneurs. 5 of the young teams from those applying to the competition and going on to the final have already started performing activities in METU Technopolis as companies.
The “New Ideas New Businesses”, the Best Technological Business Idea Competition, which is conducted based on the “not job seeking but job offering graduates” principle of the Middle East Technical University and “spreading innovation culture in young generations” mission of METU Technopolis, provides many opportunities for an idea to be converted into a business. The 65.000$ Technology Award of the Elginkan Foundation constitutes the financial first step support provided to young entrepreneurs. In addition, the 40.000$ Private Award of Defense Industries is another financial support for young entrepreneurs. Generally this award shared the same purposes of “New Ideas New Businesses, but for this award, the project should be about the defense industries. However, METU and METU Technopolis try to provide the young with every opportunity that would help university students in transforming their technology-based ideas into businesses.
