First step support for future technology companies...
The purpose of this project is to encourage and support technology and innovation based entrepreneurship among university students, primarily those of METU.
Based on its “those who offer jobs rather than finding them are the real graduates”, METU carries out free programs with the aim of encouraging and supporting the entrepreneurship of its students and to ensure that they are equipped with the appropriate knowledge and training they will need in this process. Innovation is the basic factor for success in entrepreneurship; research, on the other hand, is the principal element of innovation. The purpose of the New Ideas New Businesses project, as an implementation tool of the “those who offer jobs are the real graduates” objective, is to steer our student entrepreneurs with innovative and technological business ideas towards research in order to put these business ideas in practice and to provide the environment that would help successful students in doing so.
Even though financial gains are only for a limited number of projects, all project owners will,
- Be trained in the process of transforming an idea into a business.
- Acquire personal experience concerning the difficulties, risks, and rewards of
entrepreneurship.
- Experience the value and importance of inter-disciplinary, planned and target
oriented teamwork. - Get the chance to benefit from the experience of persons, who went through similar processes before.
- Ensure that other interest groups (venture capital companies, investors, companies,etc.) learn about their projects and probably grab the chance of getting them financed.
- Have the opportunity to be entertained under competition while being trained in principle.
The Purpose of the Competition:
The purpose of the competition is to encourage the entrepreneurship of METU and other university students through a disciplined process and necessary supports.During the competition process, participants are expected to gain experience in such subjects as the importance of teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation, and the ability to use what they have learned, to transfer their work to third persons, and to use advisors.
The Objective of the Competition:
The objective of the competition is to transform the winning project into a technology based innovative business with the supports to be provided and to create employment opportunities for qualified workforce in this manner.
Project Subjects:
Competitors may present project proposals in every subject and for every sector they wish, provided that they are based on innovation and technology. Chance for commercial success and practicability must be emphasized in the selection of subjects. Projects prepared with an interdisciplinary understanding are given special importance.
There is no technological field limitation in the competition. The technological business idea can be for any sector.
One of the conditions that should be paid attention to is that the technological business idea should be innovative. Another important point is the transformability of the idea into a business.
In order for the business idea, which will be presented, to be defined as ‘innovative’, its conformance to one of the following criteria will be sufficient:
1. A completely new technological application
2. Application of an existing technology on a new field
3. A new technological application for the region it will be produced
4. Advanced use of an existing technology
